Coded Conscience

Dive deep into the complexities of AI, from algorithmic accountability to moral decision-making in machines.

This is how it all started…

Hi Everyone, my name is Leandra and I’m the writer and creator behind this blog! I have a bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, and am currently enrolled in a Masters of Applied Science in Computer Engineering where I’m researching Neural Network applications in Biomedical Natural Language Processing. In addition to working on my Masc. I am also currently completing on a Professional Certificate in Ethics, I’m a researcher in the Responsible AI (RAI) NSERC group, and I’m a CanStudyUS 2024 Fellow!

My interest in AI Ethics started during a workshop with Engineers Without Borders in 2020, where we were asked to discuss the ethical issue of the potential use of AI in policing systems. This workshop started the the ball rolling on a multi-year long drive to learn as much as I could on the topic (hence the multiple different fellowships, groups, and programs I’ve enrolled in), and I haven’t stopped since. Through these programs I feel like I’m learning so much information about so many relevant topics and I’ve been struggling to connect them all and apply them to AI Ethics/Responsible AI. My goal for this blog is to use it to combine all of the information I’ve learned and am still learning into blog posts on AI Ethics. This could include reviewing news topics, books, things I’m learning in classes, and more. My goal is to both be able to expand my own knowledge on these topics, but also make this information more accessible for everyone.
